Yasmin Kutty was admitted to practice law in Illinois in 1996, in New York in 1998, and in Texas in 2009. She has practiced law for over twenty five years and has practiced family law in Texas for the last thirteen years. Yasmin Kutty handles divorces and other family law cases from inception through final trial on the merits. Attorney Kutty has litigated cases involving high conflict custody matters and complex property division matters. She has years of experience handling cases for clients in need of a protective order due to domestic violence and has significant experience defending parties against protective order applications. Further, Yasmin Kutty has experience representing parents and children in Child Protective Services cases in family court involving the Department of Family and Protective Services.

Ms. Kutty graduated from Northwestern University, College of Arts and Sciences in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a major in Political Science. In addition, she graduated from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law in 1995.

In 2022, she was Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. There are roughly 852 Board Certified Family Law Attorneys in the entire state of Texas as reported in 2023. The criteria to qualify to sit for the exam is extremely rigorous and to then subsequently pass the exam is also very challenging. Legal Experience

Ms. Kutty has six years of consumer fraud experience serving as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York under both the Eliot Spitzer and Andrew M. Cuomo administrations. She recovered for New York State $425,000 in civil penalties and $50,000 in costs in a settlement against Jos. A. Bank Clothiers for misleading or false advertising with sale prices that involved little or no discounting of merchandise.

Ms. Kutty also handled the investigation and settlement against Morgan Stanley DW Inc. for failure to supervise a rogue broker. She obtained $740,000 in restitution for victims and $300,000 in costs and penalties for the State of New York. Both cases received national media coverage. Her civil litigation experience handling consumer investigations gave her excellent legal acumen to handle complex property division cases involving business evaluations, retirement instruments, tracing and characterization of property.

In addition, Ms. Kutty has nine years of family law experience in New York and Texas serving as an ad litem attorney for children, representing victims of domestic violence in family court, serving as a temporary assistant attorney general for over two years in the Child Support Division of the Office of the Texas State Attorney General, and practicing family law as a solo practitioner for over 6 years.

Professional Associations

Ms. Kutty is a member of the Texas State Bar Association, the Houston Bar Association, the Fort Bend Family Bar and the Fort Bend Bar Association. She was a past board member at the HGI Counseling Center, a mental health services nonprofit in Harris County. She is the former President and current Board Member of the Fort Bend Exchange Club, a nonprofit that promotes the prevention of child abuse. She is also a member of the Burta Rhoads Raborn Family Law American Inn of Court, and is a member of the Texas State Bar Grievance Committee for District 5.

Current Practice

Ms. Kutty currently handles a high-volume divorce practice and litigates primarily in Fort Bend, Harris, and Montgomery Counties. She is regularly appointed to serve as an ad litem attorney in child protective service cases, as an amicus for children in contested divorce cases, and as an amicus for children in adoptions.

In 2009, Ms. Kutty received a special award from then-Attorney General of New York Andrew M. Cuomo, who is now the Governor of New York, for her actions in a statewide debt collection initiative against harassing debt collection agencies. Yasmin Kutty has also been consistently rated by Super Lawyers.

Ms. Kutty currently resides in Houston, Texas, with her two children and rescue dogs!
